Alternative Unit in Tally Prime

The Alternate unit is determined by the base on either Simple unit or a Compound unit. An Alternate unit can use when there are multiple units used by the item and their conversion is flexible or dynamic during the transaction.

For example, if a trader purchases Rice in bags and sell them in bags as well as kilograms, where the conventional conversion is that 1 Bag equals 25 Kg.

Alternative units give the ability to easily adjust unit of measurement based on real time transaction.

How to use alternative units

1. Create Stock as shown below

Stock Groups: RICE

Unit: BGS – BAGS – Decimal Place: 2 | KGS – KILOGRAMS – Decimal Place: 2.

Stock Item:  In stock item, Press F12 (Configuration)à set YES for “Use Alternate Units”

Name: LALITHA HALF BOILED RICE (25KG)

Under: RICE

Unit: BGS

Alternative Unit: KGS

25 KGS = 1 BGS

2. Record invoice as below:

• Purchased 50 BGS of LALITHA HALF BOILED RICE (25KG) @ Rs. 600 per BGS for cash.
• Sold 5 BGS of LALITHA HALF BOILED RICE (25KG) @ Rs. 800 per BGS for cash.
• Sold 10 KGS of LALITHA HALF BOILED RICE (25KG) @ Rs. 800 per BGS for cash.
• Sold 10 KGS of LALITHA HALF BOILED RICE (25KG) @ Rs. 33 per KGS for cash.

3. Report:

Gateway of Tally > Stock Summary > Press F12, Show Using Alternate Units – Yes
